Divine Blessing through Namasmaranam: Lord Balaji’s Appearance at Puttaparthi

1. Liberation through Namasmaranam in Kali Yuga
According to Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Namasmaranam—the continuous chanting of the Lord’s name—is the simplest and most effective path to liberation in the Kali Yuga. Liberation signifies freedom from the cycle of birth and death, offering the ultimate spiritual fulfillment. Sri Sathya Sai Baba emphasized the transformative power of Namasmaranam throughout his lifetime (1926–2011) in numerous spiritual discourses.

2. The Devotion of Smt. K. Vedavalli
Smt. K. Vedavalli realized the profound significance of Namasmaranam while working on the proofreading of Baba’s books for the Sri Sathya Sai Books & Publications Trust at Prasanthi Nilayam from June 2010 to March 2011. Inspired by the teachings, she began her spiritual journey, focusing on the continuous chanting of Lord Balaji’s name for a decade, from 2011 to 2021.

Every night, from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM, she dedicated five hours to Namasmaranam. Despite sleeping only a few hours each day, she remained disciplined, speaking only to her husband during this period. Her actions, thoughts, and words were always aligned with truth and devotion, and her life was marked by compassion, politeness, and dignity.

3. Divine Visitations
Smt. Vedavalli's devotion was rewarded with several divine experiences:

  • Shirdi Sai Baba: Appeared in physical form during her night prayers.

  • Himalayan Babaji (Babaji Nagaraj): The immortal saint, believed to have lived for over 1,800 years, granted her darshan during her sadhana in Pondicherry.

  • Lord Shiva: Blessed her with grace on multiple occasions, particularly on auspicious nights like Maha Shivaratri.

  • Saint Ramanuja: In April 2021, the revered saint—who lived over a millennium ago—appeared mysteriously in her prayers.

4. Lord Balaji’s Miraculous Appearance (August 8, 2021)
The culmination of her decade-long devotion occurred on August 8, 2021. At 3:00 AM, Smt. Vedavalli heard three taps at the door of her flat (Sai Sathya Nivas, Flat No. 106, KNP Road, Puttaparthi). Upon opening the door, she witnessed Lord Balaji of Tirumala-Tirupati standing before her in a majestic form.

The Lord personally congratulated her in Telugu for her unwavering dedication to Namasmaranam and her surrender to divine will. In that sacred moment, Lord Balaji embraced her with immense love, blessing her for successfully completing her spiritual journey and hearing His divine voice.

5. A Life of Spiritual Accomplishment
Lord Balaji praised her for her discipline, punctuality, and steadfast devotion, recognizing her lifelong commitment to spiritual growth. Smt. Vedavalli’s devotion is further highlighted by the fact that in a past life, Goddess Padmavathi (Balaji’s consort) was known as Vedavati, symbolizing an eternal divine connection.

Smt. Vedavalli, a retired educator with 36 years of service (1966–2002), is revered for her humility and piety, embodying God-consciousness every moment of her life.

6. Divine Grace and Liberation through Namasmaranam
Smt. K. Vedavalli’s unwavering discipline, punctuality, and dedication to prayer earned her the highest blessing from Lord Balaji. After a decade of intense devotion, on August 8, 2021, Lord Balaji appeared in her flat (Sai Sathya Nivas, Flat No. 106, KNP Road, Puttaparthi) at 3:00 AM, tapped at her door, and entered. In Telugu, He praised her faith and embraced her with divine love, congratulating her for attaining liberation through Namasmaranam.

This miraculous event was beyond comprehension for most, but it stood as proof of the power of sincere devotion. Vedavalli’s parents, Sri N. Krishnasamy Naidu and Smt. N. Lakshmi Devi, were also devout followers of Lord Balaji. Remarkably, Balaji spoke through her mother on several occasions while she was alive, during their time in Tiruvallikeni and Perungalathur, Chennai, until 1998.

7. Final Blessing and Departure of a Holy Soul
The Lord was deeply pleased with Vedavalli’s tireless efforts, spiritual sincerity, and non-stop practice of Namasmaranam. As a reward, He appeared in human form, spoke in a clear Telugu voice, and embraced her, marking her successful journey toward mukti (liberation), just as taught by Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Two months after this divine encounter, Smt. K. Vedavalli passed away peacefully on October 10, 2021 (Sunday, during Dasara celebrations), following a complete fast on Saturday. Her mortal remains were cremated on October 11, 2021, at the SSS Crematorium (Amardham), Puttaparthi. That evening, after her ashes were immersed in the holy Chitravathi River, there was a sudden downpour of rain, symbolizing the merging of her soul with Lord Balaji of Tirumala Hills.

8. The 16th-Day Ceremony and Bhajan Program
The 16th-day memorial ceremony was conducted on October 26, 2021, with over 300 people—including men, women, children, and students—being served food and prasadam. A Sai Bhajan program was held on October 27, followed by a coconut and fruit tree plantation ceremony, marking the conclusion of the event.

9. A Life of Service, Spirituality, and Excellence
Born into a pious family, Smt. K. Vedavalli devoted her life to prayer, worship, and spiritual endeavors, with Lord Balaji and Goddess Padmavathi of Alamelu Mangapuram as her favorite deities. She read and revered the sacred literature of saints and seers, traveled across South and North India visiting ashrams, and ultimately dedicated herself fully to Namasmaranam.

Her educational qualifications include:

  • M.A. in English Literature

  • M.Ed.

  • Diploma in Malayalam from SRLC, Mysore (where she secured first rank with distinction).

Vedavalli served as a teacher, PG assistant, Headmistress, and District Educational Officer (DEO) in the Tamil Nadu government’s education department from 1967 to 2001, taking voluntary retirement on March 17, 2001, to focus on spiritual pursuits. She was known for her exceptional teaching skills, producing 100% results in public exams (Chromepet, Chennai 44) and earned numerous awards and merit certificates for her efforts.

In addition to being an honest and non-corrupt government officer, she was a kind-hearted person with excellent handwriting and administrative abilities. Proficient in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and English, and with working knowledge of Malayalam, she was admired for her polite nature, hard work, and independence. She managed her household without hiring maids or assistants, preferring to handle all tasks, including cooking, on her own.

Vedavalli was known for her integrity and never took rest during the day, always speaking the truth and living a life of self-discipline and reliance. Her spiritual journey, marked by deep faith and continuous practice of Namasmaranam, stands as an inspiring example for all seekers.

10. Spiritual Strength and Divine Recognition
Smt. K. Vedavalli exhibited harmony between her thoughts, words, and actions throughout her life. Her spiritual devotion was acknowledged through several divine manifestations. From 2009 to 2011, during her prayers to Goddess Varalakshmi at the Gayatri Temple inside Prasanthi Nilayam, flowers would often fall spontaneously from the deity and photos of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This phenomenon occurred not only in Prasanthi Nilayam but also in temples she visited across India, including Rameswaram, Varanasi, Tiruvannamalai, Sriperumbudur, and Triplicane.

These events were considered divine blessings, acknowledging her spiritual dedication and inner strength. Vedavalli's lifelong ambition of experiencing the divine was fulfilled by the Almighty in the final years of her life. It is believed that her devotion and constant practice of Namasmaranam dissolved the karmic burdens of past lifetimes. Her life exemplified compassion, contentment, humility, and unconditional love for God and humanity.

A devoted vegetarian from 1995 onwards, she achieved her spiritual goal through relentless prayer. Her journey culminated in success—achieving 100% distinction in her mission for divine realization.

11. Marriage Arranged by Divine Will
Vedavalli’s marriage to S. Chandrasekaran was divinely ordained. In August 1988, they were married at the abode of Lord Sri Venkateswara, Tirumala Hills. A few weeks before the ceremony, Vedavalli had a dream in which Lord Balaji wrote her wedding invitation on a chariot, signaling the union’s divine approval. She relied solely on her faith and never consulted astrologers, trusting her inner strength and God's grace.

Although she had never visited Puttaparthi before 2006, she saw visions of the town's tall buildings, narrow streets, and Prasanthi Nilayam between 2004 and 2006. These dreams foretold her eventual connection with this sacred town. During this period, she frequently visited Matri Mandir and Auroville near Pondicherry, meditating there almost 200 times for both morning and evening sessions until she left Pondicherry in May 2006.

12. Prophetic Dreams and Insights
Vedavalli’s spiritual sensitivity was demonstrated through prophetic dreams. A few months before the unexpected passing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba on April 24, 2011, she had a dream foretelling the events. In the dream, she saw the route between Prasanthi Super Specialty Hospital and Puttaparthi town eerily silent, with no traffic or movement. She also saw Baba’s body lying in state at the hospital under heavy police security, days before the public announcement.

Additionally, Vedavalli dreamt about the cremation of her father, Sri N. Krishnasamy Naidu, who had passed away many years earlier. A week before her own passing, she told her husband about another dream in which she was transported to a serene, silent place, filled with peace and bliss, where no one—her husband included—was present. This dream seemed to foreshadow her transition to a higher, spiritual realm.

13. Divine Assurances and Protection
While living with her mother Smt. Lakshmi Devi and two unmarried sisters in Srinivasa Nagar, Chennai (Perungalathur near Tambaram), Lord Venkateswara spoke through her mother in human voice. On one occasion, the Lord assured them that Vedavalli's marriage would take place at Tirumala for the well-being of both families. The Lord also promised them divine protection, stating that no harm or theft would ever occur in their home, and they need not fear any dangers.

Her father, Sri N. Krishnasamy Naidu, had passed away in 1969 due to illness, leaving behind a profound legacy. He had served as a Foreman at Standard Motors Pvt. Ltd. in Perungalathur, Chennai, earning recognition for his dedication and efficiency. The company appreciated his efforts by paying him double salary to boost Fiat car sales.

Despite the loss of her father, Vedavalli’s faith never wavered. With courage and divine assurance, she lived a life of honesty, humility, and spiritual fulfillment, trusting the Lord to guide her every step.

During her tenure as Headmistress of the Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Cuddalore/Vadalur (1992-2000), several prominent leaders and officials visited the institution, recognizing its educational impact. Notable figures included:

  • Sri M.K. Stalin – Current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

  • Dr. M. Karunanidhi – Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

  • Sri M.R.K. Panneerselvam – Minister from Cuddalore district

  • Sri Durai Murugan – Minister from Vellore district

  • Sri Erai Anbu, I.A.S. – Current Chief Secretary

  • Sri Shanmugam, I.A.S. – Former Chief Secretary

  • Sri Ramakrishnan, I.A.S. – District Collector

  • Sri Sandeep Saxena, I.A.S.

Following her successful tenure as Headmistress, Vedavalli was promoted to District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO). However, just two months before her next promotion to Chief Educational Officer (CEO), she opted for voluntary retirement (VRS) to dedicate her time to visiting sacred temples and ashrams across India.

Her ultimate spiritual aspiration—seeing God, hearing His voice, and attaining liberation from the cycle of birth and death—was fulfilled. Vedavalli's journey is a testimony to her unwavering faith, culminating in a realization that she would continue to serve as a divine messenger, carrying out spiritual tasks in higher realms.

Om Namo Venkatesaya.
Govinda Namasmaranam Sakala Papa Haranam.

Questions & Answers on Spirituality and Namasmaranam

  • What is Ramasmaranam?
Ramasmaranam is the constant repetition of God’s name, performed hundreds or thousands of times as a continuous practice. It is an endless process that requires purity of heart, full devotion, and surrender to God, free from negative traits such as ego, anger, greed, pride, or jealousy. By practicing Namasmaranam, one can overcome the cycle of rebirth and death. Those who remain constantly God-conscious have a higher chance of achieving liberation through this practice.

  1. Is Ramasmaranam easy or difficult to practice?
Ramasmaranam is neither easy nor difficult. The key lies in consistent and uninterrupted silent repetition of God’s name without any specific time limit. It can be practiced anywhere—regardless of place, language, or time—without requiring money, initiation, or a guru. No formal qualifications are needed.

    • Initially, the practice can start with 10 cycles of chanting.

    • Gradually, the cycles can be increased to a maximum of 40.

    • Oral or silent Namasmaranam is more effective than written forms due to its simplicity and focus.

  1. What is meant by ‘Eternal Witness’?
God is the universal witness to all our actions, thoughts, and speech. He silently observes and listens to everything we do, serving as a constant vigilance officer.

    • No action, whether good or bad, escapes His attention.

    • God remembers every sin to give appropriate punishment either during life or after death.

    • However, Namasmaranam acts as an antidote for all sins, as sincere daily chanting with repentance can lead to divine forgiveness.

  1. What is Rebirth?
    a) Rebirth occurs when the soul, which is eternal, separates from the temporary physical body at death. Life does not end with death, and the soul continues to be reborn until liberation is achieved. In some cases, individuals are born as non-humans, depending on divine will. Noble souls, who live with truth, compassion, and detachment, achieve union with God without much effort.

    b) Memories of past lives are typically sealed, and most people do not remember parents, relatives, or events from previous births. However, a few extraordinary children recall events from past lives, though this memory usually fades over time.

    c) Saints and sages have the ability to reveal details about previous and future lives. These individuals are rare, often leading simple, secluded lives in forests or mountains, and may survive with minimal food or water. They are difficult to identify and approach. Agathiar palm leaf astrology is said to reveal patterns of one’s past and present lives.

    e) Rebirth occurs due to sins committed in previous lives, and no one is born without any past sins. To avoid rebirth, one must lead a sinless life, though this is extremely challenging.

    f) Liberation requires sincere spiritual practice, good deeds, and living by truth and righteousness. Namasmaranam is the most effective tool for liberation, especially in the current Kali Yuga (2000-2100). The life of K. Vedavalli is a testament to the power of Namasmaranam in achieving liberation.

  2. Are there reserved seats for ministers, kings, or VIPs in Moksha or Divine Abodes?
No, there are no reserved seats in divine realms such as Moksha, Shiva Loka, Sri Vaikunta, or Kailasa for anyone based on status, wealth, or position. Even kings, ministers, and VVIPs must strive through rigorous spiritual practice, noble deeds, sacrifice, meditation, and yoga to reach liberation.

    • They must overcome desires, anger, pride, jealousy, greed, and other negative tendencies to progress spiritually.

    • God is compassionate and impartial, treating all human beings equally. Anyone who takes even ten steps toward God with sincere effort will find that God takes a hundred steps toward them in return.

Spiritual progress requires regular and sincere practice with full faith and concentration, without delay or distractions.

    1) What is meant by Ramasmaranam?

Ramasmaranam is the continuous repetition of the divine name of God, ideally thousands of times, with no end to the process. It is practiced by individuals with a pure heart, free from anger, ego, pride, greed, and other vices. A person who engages deeply in Namasmaranam (chanting God's name) with unwavering devotion can conquer the cycle of rebirth and death. Liberation becomes possible for those who are constantly God-conscious.

    2) Is Ramasmaranam easy or difficult to practice?

Ramasmaranam is neither easy nor difficult, but it demands consistency and uninterrupted repetition of God's name.

    • How to practice: Silent repetition (Namasmaranam) is recommended at all times.

    • No prerequisites: No guru, fees, or specific qualifications are required.

    • Scalable: Start with 10 cycles and increase gradually to 40 cycles.

    • Why silent chanting is better: Oral or silent chanting is often more effective than written forms.

    3) What is meant by Eternal Witness?

God is the Eternal Witness who observes all actions, thoughts, and speech. He listens silently to everything and acts as a 24/7 observer. No wrongdoing escapes His attention. However, Namasmaranam can purify the soul and cancel past sins through God's grace.

    4) What is Rebirth?

    • Life after death: Death is only for the physical body; the soul is eternal. Souls may be reborn in human or non-human forms, depending on past actions (karma).

    • Memory of past lives: Most individuals do not remember their previous lives, although rare children may recall past events temporarily.

    • Role of saints: Saints with spiritual insight can reveal details of past lives.

    • Path to liberation: To avoid rebirth, one must lead a righteous life without desire, anger, greed, or pride, which is extremely challenging. Namasmaranam offers the simplest path to liberation in the present age.

    • Examples of souls and avatars: Notable souls like K. Vedavalli attained liberation through Namasmaranam. Saints like Mahaavatar Babaji and Ramalinga Swamigal transcended physical death and merged with God.

    5) Is there a reservation system in Moksha or divine realms?

No. Positions in Moksha, Shiva Loka, Sri Vaikunta, or Kailasa are not reserved for kings, ministers, or wealthy individuals. Liberation is based solely on intense spiritual effort, self-discipline, and noble deeds. God treats all beings equally, and desires, wealth, or status do not guarantee liberation. A few sincere steps towards God will bring Him closer to you.

    6) Do our prayers reach God?

Yes. Prayers reach God instantly, faster than the speed of light. God responds according to the intensity and sincerity of the prayer, although results may manifest only at the right time. No prayer is ever wasted; each one carries its own power. The story of Draupadi from the Mahabharata illustrates how God intervenes at the critical hour in response to genuine devotion.

    7) What is meant by sin?

Sin refers to harmful or unholy actions.

    • How to avoid sin: Be mindful and pause when your conscience warns you against a wrong action.

    • Prevention is better than cure: It is wise to postpone decisions driven by anger or desire to avoid regret later.

    • Path to a sin-free life: Focus on truth, honesty, and righteous living. Practicing Namasmaranam helps cleanse sins. Morning prayers between 3:00 A.M. – 5:00 A.M. are particularly effective.

    8) What happens to the soul after death?

    • The nature of the soul: The soul is like a light mist or vapor, eternal and indestructible. It carries the karma (life events) of each birth.

    • Merging with God: Noble souls achieve liberation and merge with God. Some great beings, like Shirdi Sai Baba, Ramalinga Swamigal, and Mahaavatar Babaji, transcend death entirely and continue to serve as divine messengers.

    • Life examples: Babaji remains immortal. Jesus Christ is also believed to have survived crucifixion and attained enlightenment through spiritual practices like Kriya Yoga.

    9) What advice do you have for the younger generation?

    • Health and Discipline:

      • Practice yoga, meditation, and Namasmaranam early in the morning (3:00 A.M. – 5:00 A.M.).

      • Avoid desires, as they disturb mental peace and lead to health issues.

      • Drink 4 liters of water daily, avoid day-time sleep, and limit speech to essential conversations.

      • Prefer natural remedies (naturopathy, homeopathy, Ayurveda) over allopathy.

    • Diet and Lifestyle:

      • Avoid foods like white sugar, salt, fried items, sweets, coffee, and non-vegetarian dishes.

      • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables; use hand-pounded rice instead of polished white rice.

      • Help others: Provide food to at least one beggar daily.

    • Spiritual Guidance:

      • Respect parents and teachers.

      • Swami Sivananda’s books, especially on Brahmacharya (celibacy), are recommended for deeper spiritual growth.

      • Brahmacharya life is ideal for achieving spiritual progress, as controlling desires increases lifespan.

    • Mantra:
"Man – Desire = God; Man + Desire = Animal."
